Where is Queen Mary and what’s the setting like?

Queen Mary is the only campus-based Russell Group university in London, with campuses in five central and east London locations. Queen Mary’s Mile End campus is only one stop on the tube from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and one of Europe’s biggest urban shopping centres, Westfield Stratford City. The campus is also a short walk from Victoria Park, one of London’s most popular green spaces, which hosts a food market on Sundays and music festivals in summer. Other local attractions popular with students include Brick Lane, the Whitechapel Gallery, Boxpark Shoreditch and the Mile End Climbing Wall.

Queen Mary supports postgraduate students through a range of different scholarship opportunities. This includes a number of competitive Queen Mary bursaries and scholarships, in a range of subject areas, as well as external sources of funding. Queen Mary is pleased to offer the Global Talent Scholarship worth £5,000, and the President’s Global Scholarship worth £10,000, for high achieving postgraduate students joining in September 2026.

What is student life like at Queen Mary?

As well as being able to take advantage of everything London has to offer, on campus you can find Drapers Bar & Kitchen and The Griff Inn, which provide great quality food and drink by day. By night, they host entertainment, live sport, and weekly club nights.

Queen Mary looks after its students with the student health service, and there is also an NHS dental practice. Queen Mary also runs a large counselling and welfare service. General wellbeing activities are run throughout the year, including wellbeing walks, yoga, and mindfulness sessions. There is also an excellent Disability and Dyslexia Service.

Queen Mary is also home to over 300 societies.

  • Queen Mary has three libraries and a range of study spaces across the campuses, with 24/7 access available in semester.
  • There is a free student health service, which includes a GP surgery and NHS dental practice.
  • High-quality gym facilities, including QMotion which has a ladies-only gym and runs 30 group exercise classes per week.
  • Queen Mary is the only Russell Group university in London that has a campus. All new postgraduate students who meet the criteria are guaranteed university accommodation on or near campus.
