Course content
This MA Musical Theatre course delivers world-class actor training for performers committed to a professional career in Musical Theatre.
Over the course of 18 months, students will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of new and existing musical theatre writing, explore the historical and political contexts of the time, and work with a wide variety of practitioners and choreographers to discover different approaches to the genre.
Students will develop their voice with ensemble singing and private 1:1 vocal technique tuition and learn from industry choreographers in technique classes for Tap, Ballet, Jazz, Commercial and Hip Hop. Classes will delve into a variety of musicals, analyzing texts from key composers such as Sondheim, Kander & Ebb, Finn, Bernstein and Schwartz, plus explore the effective communication of song, choreography and text.
Performance opportunities include the public-facing enrichment performances BRAVO and ENCORE as well as the LAMDA Show Choir.
Students will also have the chance to workshop a new writing project, take a musical on a regional tour as well as perform in a fully staged public-facing musical in the Sainsbury Theatre with a live band and showcase their talent in an Industry Showcase.
Year two will invite students to participate in taught classes and independent research, where they will explore new trends in Musical Theatre and gain a CPD-accredited qualification in LAMDA Examinations teaching.
